The saury is a fish, common to the table, palette, of Japanese cuisine.

さんま苦（にが）いか、塩（しょ）つぱいか。
そがの上（うえ）に熱（あつ）き涙（なみだ）をしたたらせて
さんまを食（くら）ふ（う）は
いづ（ず）この里（さと）のならひ（い）ぞや。

げにそは門（と）は（わ）まほしくを（お）かし。
